Cat furniture
Cat-Tree was created for 9 Lives, a unique design event where 9 designers (lives) express their take on furniture design for cats in urban, compact living spaces. It aims to showcase how good design can improve experiences and cultivate a deeper appreciation for quality design.
Humans and cats delight in each other’s physical presence and share a great capacity for affection. The approach to the design was to create a furniture piece that both the cat and human can enjoy or use together.
The design was inspired by the sights of gatherings of bird lovers and their birds in cages at common communal spaces in Singapore, where bird cages would be hung up on poles/ceilings.
The furniture piece is also a tongue-in-cheek play by swapping roles of natural enemies, the bird and the cat.
Cats like high perches because of their natural instincts for survival. They observe the movements of their prey and feel safe from other predators.
‘Cat-Tree’ consists of several platforms at different angles that aid in exercise for the cat as well as a means for the cat to reach the cage at the top.
It was being exhibited at the 9Lives Design Sho at Visual Arts Centre as part of the Singapore Design Week.
